THEODORE D. CAVINESS

Theodore Dwight Caviness (94 years old) was born November 5, 1930, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 30, 2025. Ted was born near Scott’s Bluff, Nebraska, to Clifford and Mae Caviness. They moved to Lynnwood, California, where Ted grew up and attended Lynwood Adventist Academy before completing his undergraduate studies at Walla Walla College in Washington. He then went to OHSU Dental School and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1956. He married in 1955 and had a son and daughter, Merrill (1956) and Alisa (1963). He practiced dentistry in Vancouver for over 40 years where he and his family resided in Vancouver. That marriage ended in 1973. Ted met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Schock, July 28, 1977. They built their home and a beautiful life in Vancouver for over 50 years. The indelible bonus of their marriage was an evolving family with Pat’s two daughters, Cynthia (1960) and Elisabeth (1962). He is survived by his four children, Merrill (Pam), Cindy (Tom), Beth (Duane), Alisa (Bill); five grandchildren, Kent (Jacci) Cherie (in memoriam), Ashley (Jesse), Cody (Suzie), Nicolas, Tommy; five great-grandchildren, Bryton, Dylan, Julia, Luke, Jasper. He emulated to those who knew him the meaning of kindness, integrity, hard work, humility, honesty, and compassion. He will be remembered for his love for God and his family, dedication to his church, and unwavering faith. His greatest joy was time with family, skiing, motor home trips, and being a skilled master gardener. Ted enjoyed traveling, including mission trips with his wife Pat to Europe, South America, Thailand. The celebration of his life will be Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2 p.m., Riverside Christian Church, 463 Shepherd Road, Washougal, Washington. A second celebration of his life will be held in Chico, California, Friday, November 28, 2025, at 6.30 p.m. at the home of Doug and Zanita Benson. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Springwood Landing and Touchmark at Fairway Village caregivers.
