Theodore Cherry Obituary
Theodore R. Cherry was born to Howard and Ira Cherry on May 2nd, 1931. in Hinds County Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from Holy Ghost High School on June 6th, 1951, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. During his distinguished 34 years of active duty military service he was awarded: the Good Conduct Medal (11th award) National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Mast and the Navy Achievement Medal before retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant on January 31st, 1985.
On June 10th, 1960, Ted married his loving wife Annette D. Cherry at 1611 Savannah Street S.E. District of Columbia. Ted and Annette went on to have two children, Jawan and Jonas Cherry. He was a loving husband to Annette of 63 years, a loving and proud dad to Jawan and Jonas, and a loving Father in Law to Kelly Cherry and Maria Rosa Cherry. On December 5th 1985, he was initiated as a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society. On August 11, 1986 he was awarded a Bachelor of Art Degree Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Once retiring from the United States Marine Corps he taught in the North Carolina Public Education System for over 20 years.
Ted was a member of the Infant of Prague Church where he served as an Alter Assistant and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
During his earlier years, Ted loved to run and swim, but his real passion was photography he was always looking to capture that perfect moment on film.
Ted is predeceased by his three brothers: Archie, Harry and Howard and two sisters: Ernestine and Minnie.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville prior to the service, from 11:00am to 12:30pm, on July 20,2023.

I am sorry to hear about sergeant Cherry. After trying to reach him for several months, i decided To Do a search and came across his obituary. I met Mr Cherry at New Rivers gym and i saw that he was struggling to do certain exercises. I helped him out and we talked alot. He was a great man and ill miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your father Jawan and Jonas. He was an extraordinary man who contributed so much to our school (Southwest High) and community. He will be missed.
