On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Theodore DeJournette, Sr at the age of 96, a native of Rockingham County and resided in Caswell County, crossed over to a new life of living in glory during his stay at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, N.C
He was born December 20, 1926, in
Pelham, N.C. son of the late James DeJournette and Florence Muse DeJournette. Theodore was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
He was a member of Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served as a Deacon many years, participated in the male chorus, Sunday School Teacher, member of Cedar Ministries, and was for 58 years an active member of the Prince Hall Pelham Masonic Lodge #571.
Theodore loved to read and discuss the Bible. In his role as a Deacon, he visited many Church members and friends in their time of need sharing the gospel. He loved the Lord, his Church Family and consistently talked about how important it is to love and pray for one another.
He retired from Field Crest Mills, in
Eden, N.C. Later worked at the Reidsville Library where everyone loved and respected him. He enjoyed his retirement days for a short period at the RCARE Senior Center of Reidsville meeting friends and making many arts and crafts items which he proudly displayed at his residence.
Theodore leaves behind several relatives who will cherish his memory and miss him dearly, a son, Theodore DeJournette, Jr (Barbara), Daughters, Theresa Lawson, Shirley Blackstock, son, Tommy Michael DeJournette, Larry Darnell Abbott. Eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Brother in laws Rufus Voss and Herbert Voss, Sister in laws Barbara Wilson and Mabel Abbott,
In addition to his parents, Theodore was proceeded in death by his wife of 69 years, Blanche V. DeJournette, son Johnny Voss, grandson Johnny Voss, Jr, Sisters Lucy DeJournette, Beatrice DeJournette, and brothers, Moses DeJournette, Charlie DeJournette, and George DeJournette.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Blue Stone Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Doe delivering the eulogy and Pastor Hamid H. Kamara presiding over the service.
Visitation will be held from 10:30am – 11:00am at the church.
Internment will follow in the church cemetery.
