Theodore "Ted" Ray Stryker of Houston, Texas went to Heaven on January 27, 2024, at age 92, after contracting Covid 19. He was born in Newton, Kansas to parents, Theodore Peter Stryker and his wife, Pansy Blossom Jones on September 18, 1931, after a misdiagnosed tumor turned out to be their seventh child, twenty-one years after their first.
Ted attended Hutchinson Junior College and Fort Hayes State University on track scholarships. He was a world-class athlete who ran in races all over the world, specializing in the mile, half-mile, and steeplechase. He collected gold medals and set records at every level starting in high school-many of which stood for decades. He was an All-American during his time at Fort Hayes State. In 1952, after his junior year of college, he joined the U.S. Air Force after receiving a draft notice from the Army. He served for eight years, spending half of his time training for the track team, and half of his time procuring supplies for the Strategic Air Command. He married Nina Margaret Bryant on December 21, 1955, and spent most of his career after the Air Force as a mail carrier. Ted continued running races well into his sixties and was a huge sports fan until the end.
Ted was a devoted father and doting grandfather, and he adored his wife. But his greatest love was for his Lord, Jesus Christ. He loved to sing praises to Him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Ruby Grochowsky, Edna Larsen, Alma Benton, Alice Stryker, Betty Larsen, and James Stryker; his son, Daniel Stryker; and his grandson, Shaun Stryker.
Ted is survived by his loving wife, Nina; his children: Ruth Flores (Mike), Rebecca Turner (Karl), John Stryker, and Esther Griffing (John); his seven grandchildren: Wendy Flory, Tara Brown, Brandon Stryker, John Griffing III, Jacob Griffing, and Kaitlynne Riese; ten great-grandchildren: Angelique Stryker, Emma Flory, Everett Flory, Janelle Brown, Landon Brown, Ashlyn Brown, and Hynslee Riese; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 1:00 pm at McNutt Funeral Home located at 1703 Porter Rd, Conroe TX 77301.
A dinner will follow the service at the VFW Hall at 1303 W Semands Ave, Conroe TX 77301.
The burial will be on Monday, February 12 at 11:30 AM, Lane 1, at the Houston National Cemetery located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston TX 77038.
