Theresa Buttitta ObituaryTheresa Buttitta, known to family and friends as Terri, of Asbury Park, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Saturday, August 2, 2025 with her children by her side. Born in Newark on February 20, 1931, Terri lived a life rooted in family, creativity, and quiet strength.
Terri studied elementary education at Kean College. During that time, she was a devoted stay-at-home mother before sharing her warmth and wisdom as a substitute teacher at John Adams Middle School in Edison. Later, she flourished as a newspaper reporter and restaurant columnist in both California and New Jersey. After her retirement she worked part-time as a receptionist in the City Manager's office in Asbury Park. Her lifetime career included a combination of her love of writing and her deep appreciation for community and culture.
Terri had an eye for beauty-drawn to art, photography, and design. She found deep peace and happiness by the ocean, especially in her final years spent at Asbury Tower in Asbury Park, basking in the warm sunshine and sea air.
She is survived by her loving children, Anthony Buttitta Jr., (Suzanne Peniston), Phyllis Maffucci, (Roger Wesenyak). Five grandchildren; Lauren Banos, (Griffin Banos), Michael Maffucci Jr. (Jasmin Maffucci), Anthony Maffucci, (Erin Maffucci), Jenna Buttitta-O'Connor, Alexa Levchenko, (Michael Levchenko). Ten great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Kennedy, Brielle, Colette, Anthony, Marco, Valentina, Lia, Julianna, and Roman. A brother, John Nardone, (Antoinette Nardone), and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her father, John Baptiste Nardone, her mother, Minnie Petrillo, and her sisters, Carmella and Jay.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, August 6, at the Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township.
