Theresa Ann McUmber, 91, of Brooklyn passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital.
She was born on September 21, 1931, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Dr. Herman E. Hilleboe and Alida Champeau. Terry married the love of her life, the late Richard "Dick" McUmber on May 17, 1964, in New York. He precedes her in death.
Today, we celebrate the life of an incredible woman, a loving wife and mother, whose quick wit and sense of humor brought light into every room she entered. She had a way of connecting with people that left a lasting impression, and her kindness and warmth made her loved by many. Her heart was always open to animals, a passion she carried throughout her life. She supported causes close to her heart, including Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and The Asher House, where her generosity helped countless animals find safety and care. In her spare time, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life – reading, listening to music, stained glass and ceramics. Terry was a physical therapist, retiring from the University of Michigan Hospital and Glacier Hills of Ann Arbor, after many years of service. She received her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Tufts University in Massachusetts. Terry was also a member of APTA.
Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and compassion. While she will be deeply missed, her impact on her family, friends, and the world around her will never be forgotten.
Terry is survived by her children, Lynn Pawlowski, Lisa Sharp, Kelly Reckendorf, also stepchildren, David Kamke, Douglas McUmber, Deborah Williams and Diane Deever, her brother, Herman E. Hilleboe, Jr.; grandchildren Christopher Greer, Shelby Reckendorf, Reese Pawlowski, Bethany Greer and Samantha Clifford; 10 step grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard and sister Joyce.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or the Asher House. Please leave a message of comfort for Terry's family or sign her guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
