Theresa Jean Teague, 71, a beloved teacher and mentor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025 in Corinth, surrounded by her family. Theresa was the eldest of three children born to Roy Gene and Annie Mae Dillon on January 2, 1954.
Theresa was married to the love of her life, Larry Michael "Mike" Teague on December 23, 1971. Mike and Theresa were married for 53 years before she passed away. She was a follower of Christ and served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Choir at Chewalla Baptist Church. As a mother of three and grandmother of five, she instilled her values, faith, and love for God in her family. Theresa dedicated her life to shaping young minds and inspiring a love for learning. She retired from the McNairy County School System as a Career Ladder III educator after 39 years of service, teaching almost all of those years at Selmer Elementary School. She was a graduate of McNairy Central High School and Freed Hardeman University, where she earned a Masters Degree in Education.
A gifted and devoted teacher, she not only shaped young minds but also touched countless hearts. Once honored as McNairy County's Teacher of the Year, Theresa also devoted many years to leading adult education classes, helping others achieve their GEDs and transform their futures. She truly changed lives. Yet, the greatest lesson Theresa ever taught wasn't reading or writing-it was how to love. A lesson she lived and demonstrated every day, not only to her students but to her children and grandchildren. And through them, her lesson of love will continue to be passed down, touching generations yet to come – her love echoing into eternity.
Theresa's nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family, as she became a mother figure to many new teachers. She was a wonderful, kind, and loving friend. She enjoyed reading her Bible and watching red birds nest in her birdhouse. Above all, spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Whether celebrating birthdays and anniversaries or cheering at the ballpark Theresa was always surrounded by her family, and she surrounded her family with love. The world is a better place because she was here and even Heaven is made better by her presence there.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Gene and Annie Mae Dillon; two brothers, Johnny Dillon and Phillip Dillon; in-laws, Raymond and Mina Merle Teague; brother-in-law, Ronnie Teague.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Teague; three sons, Lain Teague, Shane Teague and wife Paige, Heath Teague and wife Beth Ann; five grandchildren, Stone and fiancé Sydney Bolton, Aspen, Owen, Quinn and Coy Teague; sisters-in-law, Shelly Barnes and husband Tommy, Helen Dillon.
