That Special Lady

"Mother, Arts and Crafts Lover, and Yahweh's Daughter"

FROM ROGER

I want to first off, thank you for everything you've done. All the support. All the times I've been down, you've always been there to pick me up. I truly will miss your words of encouragement. I will miss you singing with me every Sunday. But now you are singing in a choir that is way better than any choir that will ever be down on earth. I love you forever, Ma: your baby boy, Roger.

FROM DYESUN

My mother was one of a kind-a leader, a helper, and someone who protected her family without hesitation. She taught me lessons that shaped me into the man I am today. There's no way to measure how much she did for me or how deeply she loved me. She pushed me to be stronger, even when life felt heavy. Her strength, her guidance, and her loyalty will stay with me forever. I'll honor her by living the way she raised me to. Mom, I love you-red roses were our favorite, and today they are for you.

FROM T.J.

Ma was always ready for an adventure. I loved walking through Williamsburg with her in the holiday season or waking up with the dawn on our trip to the Bahamas. She was always one phone call away, no matter the time. She was there during my heartaches and always ready to dance or listen to my crazy music. I'll always treasure the times we danced together or rode to the crafts store, playing 90s music. I love you, Ma. Thank you for all the crazy, frustrating, and absolutely thrilling moments.

FROM SHANIQUE

Ma, there can never be enough words to express the gratitude and appreciation I have for you. Thank you for your guidance, constant support throughout the years, and all the times you gave without hesitation. You have always been there for me and the kids. There were times you gave us the last of what you had to make sure we didn't go without. Growing up, we didn't have all the finest things, but you always made sure we had food on our tables and a roof over our heads. And regardless of the obstacles you faced, your faith in Yahweh and the Holy Word was always unwavering. I miss you so much, but it comforts me to know you are in a better place. No more pain. No more suffering.

FROM JUDY

Theressa was born on the beautiful island of Nassau, which is the capital of the Bahamas. She loved to cook, knit, crochet, sew straw bags, and make floral arrangements. Anything she put her hand on, craft-wise, came out beautiful. She made a mean pot of peas and rice. Those big, fluffy rolls were on point.

Beautiful smile and personality to match.

I would see her cook and feed anyone. Reasa had a big yellow Tupperware bowl filled with tuna fish on fresh-baked bread. Every Saturday, she would take anyone who wanted to go in her "racer orange car," Dyesun used to call it. She would take us to the ball field, maybe ten feet away from our ma-mae's house, sit us on cut-open cardboard boxes, teach Bible verses, sing, and eat. She would cut a pattern from a newspaper or a cardboard soft box and make dress and skirt patterns.

Reasa's passion was anything domestic. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, she would crochet those little things to go on the arm of the chairs, dollies for the coffee tables. She even made tablecloths. Her interest was always working. She would tell my cousins, "Don't work, don't eat."

Once you had Reasa for your friend, no matter how you were related to her, you had a friend and a confidante. We've shared that sisterly/friendship bond my whole life. Reasa used to do this little Bible course. It was free. She had students all over America, even in Jamaica and some of the Bahamas. I will miss my bond with my sister Reasa a lot. Calling on the phone, buying Avon, and visiting each other.

Reasa, you will always be in my heart, a memory I'll never forget. Thank you for being in my life. Thanks for treating Sam like you birthed her. From the bottom of my heart, I truly appreciate and love you. Thank You, Lord, for making us sisters. But mostly friends Your baby sister Judy.

FROM SUSANNA

One thing I will say about Ma that was absolute is that she made sure we went to church. She also wanted to spend time together walking around craft stores. I didn't like that, but I LOVED seeing her light up when she picked out her new favorite flower for a floral arrangement. No one can replace a person of great worth with trinkets, and Ma showed us our worth as her heritage, a legacy, unwavering and rooted in Yahweh. One day, we will see each other again.
