Thomas Edward Asbury, known to most as Ed, passed away peacefully at home in Eagle River, Alaska, on April 10, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born in Richlands, Virginia, Ed was the beloved son of Thomas "Jack" Asbury and Thelma Asbury. He graduated from Bland High School and earned an associate degree in Police Science from Tazewell Technical School.
Over the years, Ed built a life marked by hard work and service. He worked and served as a welder, U.S. Marine, police officer, and eventually retired as an air traffic controller.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman and a man of many talents. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing music, cooking, coaching, and flying his plane. To his friends and family, he was one of the scariest teddy bears you'd ever meet - tough on the outside, but full of warmth, humor, and heart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Asbury; sons Steven Ballard, Gregory Asbury, and Braden Asbury; and his siblings Sonja Asbury, Karen Wolf, Marcie Asbury, James Asbury. He was a proud grandfather of four and great-grandfather of three.
His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the stories that will continue to be shared by those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center, 22424 N Birchwood Loop, Chugiak, AK 99567.
