ATKINS
Thomas Allen Atkins, 76 of Oreana, passed away at 9:16 am Sunday August 13, 2023, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11:00 am Friday August 18, 2023, at Tabernacle Baptist Church (650 North Wyckles Road,
Decatur, Illinois 62521). A visitation will be held Thursday August 17, 2023, beginning at 5:00 pm. to 7:00 pm also at the church. The burial will be in Long Point Cemetery Niantic, Illinois. Memorials if desired may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.
Tom was born in March of 1947, in Decatur, the son of James and Edna Atkins. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Illinois State University. Tom loved to read and was a History and English teacher for Decatur Christian School. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and loved attending there. He married his wife Mary in April of 1978 and she preceded him in death.
Surviving is his children, Sarah Atkins of
Fayetteville, Arkansas, Daniel Atkins of Texas, Elizabeth (Chris) Weatherford of Oreana, five grandchildren, Marissia, Makayla, Lakya, C'yanah, Lilliana, sister, Janet Boys, brother, Eddie (Marty) Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and four sisters.

Tom was a loving dad and grandpa, and he will be deeply missed.
