Thomas G. Barkoski

Thomas George Barkoski, 74 of South Champlain St in Burlington, VT died on September 10th, 2023 in the comfort of his own home with his family and friends.
Tom was born on New Years Eve, December 31st, 1948, in Bristol Connecticut and the son to Joseph Barkoski and Catherine Burrows.
Tom was in and out of trouble as an adolescent and young adult but he worked hard to make positive changes and turned his life around. He began his career as a substance use counselor for Howard Mental Health in Burlington in 1983. He continued his work in several capacities for agencies such as Maple Leaf Farm and Imani Health Institute, where he conducted workshops that focused on the education and prevention of HIV/AIDS and substance abuse for incarcerated individuals.
Tom has been a pillar in the AA community with over 40 years of sobriety. He has sponsored generations of recovering addicts and alcoholics, bringing his life full circle and giving back to an at risk community that he was endeared from and remains a part of.
He is predeceased by both of his parents, and his brother Joseph and sister Linda. He is survived by his brother Raymond and four children, Tommy, Robin, Dylan, and Olivia and grandchildren from them all. Tom loved his friends and family dearly and he will be missed and thought of forever.
Visiting hours for Tom will be held at Ready Funeral Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road in Burlington on Saturday, September 16 from 10am-12pm. Visting hour will be followed with a memorial service beginning at 12pm.
