Thomas Barry Obituary

Thomas F. Barry
June 21, 1930 - May 24, 2024
On Friday, May 24, 2024, Thomas Francis Barry III died in Coventry, Connecticut at the age of 93. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Hamilton Barry, his sister Margaret "Sis" Farrelly (Frank) of Old Lyme, CT, sister-in-law Deborah Aberg, Wake Forest, NC, and his children: Lavinia "Lynn" Kassel of Pound Ridge, NY, Steven Barry (Diane) of Deep River, CT, Brian Barry (Rose) of Inman, SC, Sean Barry of Pound Ridge, NY and stepson William Bailey (Judith) of West Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by his parents, his son T. Kevin Barry (Karen) and son-in-law Barry Kassel. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Scott Kassel (Courtney), Brett Kassel (Kristen), Lara Nayor (David), Daniel Kassel, Sarah Barry, Rachel O'Malley (Jack), Jessica Barry, Matthew Barry (Tracy), Meghan Bissonnette (Justin), Brendan Barry (Emily), Kevin Barry (Jill), and step-grandchildren Maitland and Lindsay Bailey. He also leaves 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was born on June 21, 1930, to Thomas F. Barry II and Margaret Lawson Barry in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Buckley High School in 1948. In 1951 he joined the US Air Force where he proudly served for 4 years and was stationed in Florida, Alaska, and Texas. In 1952 he married Lavinia McDonald, with whom he had five children. Tom was an independent businessman and established Minit-Man Printing in Manchester, CT which he owned and operated for many years prior to retirement.
Tom loved to share his enthusiasm for music, automobiles and had a keen eye for capturing people's sparkle in the many pictures he would take. In retirement, he enjoyed the peace and quiet of life on the farm he shared with his wife Barbara, whom he married in 1992. He and Barbara had a close circle of friends and an active social life, often involving good food, laughter and lively conversation. They were both active in supporting the Coventry Farmer's Market and the Coventry Lion's Club.
A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following: That Newfoundland Place, Coventry, CT, Vernon Visiting Nurse and Health Services, Vernon, CT, or Second Congregational Church, Coventry CT. Special thanks to Tom's close friends for their longstanding support and friendship and to the VNA and Home Care givers for the care they provided during his last days.

I was so sad to hear this news, but so glad I had the chance to know Tom for many years. His sense of humor and ability to make everyone feel like family were well appreciated.

Lavinia, so sorry to hear about your father. My dear father passed 11 years ago. My mom is 93 and doing pretty good. May you find support in memories!
