Dr. Wallace Smith

Yesterday

My deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Thomas H. Brown.

Dr. Brown hired me as Provost of the Plainfield Campus in 1992, and I learned more from him than from anyone else in higher education. He was a brilliant leader-strategic, thoughtful, caring-and he always carried a warm sense of humor. He was wonderful to my young son, Justin, and he was a mentor and role model whose guidance shaped my entire career.

In 2000, he honored me by appointing me as his Vice President for Academic Affairs, a testament to the confidence he placed in me. During his remarkable tenure as President of Union County College, he became one of the most successful community college presidents of modern times. His legacy is unmatched and will continue to influence generations.

On behalf of my family, I will miss him deeply and remain grateful for his time, his brilliance, and his heart in building a true community at Union County College.

Senior Professor of Psychology and Sociology

Dear Tressa and Family,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful memories of Dr. Brown. As president of Union County College, he created a true sense of family within the college community. No matter what someone“s position was, he treated everyone with the same respect.

He also had a unique sense of humor that I will always remember. He made a lasting impression on so many people, and I feel grateful to have known and worked with him. I know Bohdan considered him a friend, and that's a very special memory.

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this difficult time, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sending heartfelt condolences to Tressa and the whole family. Dr. Brown had a great sense of humor and let me lead on the dance floor. The atmosphere at UCC under his presidency was so pleasant and cooperative. Under his guidance the college had a highly respected reputation.
With much sympathy,

My deepest condolences to the Family of Dr. Thomas H. Brown. I knew Tom throughout his tenure as President of Union County College, now renamed as Union College of New Jersey. As chairperson of the UCC Faculty and President of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors, at various times, I dealt with Tom often. He was always professional, understanding, and helpful. During his Presidency, the college attained the highest enrollment to date He expanded opportunities for all the students at the college and within the County of Union. During his Presidency, the college was "first among its peers.' I valued his friendship and collegiality. He always saw himself as a member of the faculty.
With deepest sympathy,
Dr. Harold Damerow
Professor Emeritus of Government and History
