Thomas Michael Brown Sr. was born in New York City in August 1955, the youngest son of Patrick and Muriel Brown. Tommy spent his childhood living on Morton Street in Greenwich Village with his parents, older brother Patrick and sisters Sheila and Elizabeth. Tommy would eventually settle on the east side in Stuyvesant Town, a place he called home for over 50 years with his wife Patsy and where they raised their four children, Sheila, Katie, Thomas, and Maggie. Tommy was well known and loved in his neighborhood, a steady presence with a welcoming smile and a laugh that could only be described as contagious.
In addition to his home in NYC, Tommy spent his summers as a young man in Budd Lake, NJ. It was there that he met the love of his life, Patsy, a fellow summer resident visiting from the Bronx. Tommy and Patsy married in March 1974 and continue to spend their summers in Budd Lake for the next 50 years.
Tommy loved lake life and especially the opportunity it provided him to spend time with his family. Over the years, "Big T" could often be found driving his boat around the lake with his children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and countless friends before cooking up a feast for everyone to share. A masterful host, his real gift beyond creating fun on the water and making a great meal was his ability to make everyone with whom he spoke feel welcomed and loved. He was a creator of joy, and those lucky enough to be in his orbit felt the genuineness of his kindness and spirit.
Tommy is greeted in heaven by his parents and his older brother, Msgr Patrick Brown. He is survived by his wife Patsy, his daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Danny O'Donnell of Greenwich, CT, his daughter and son-in-law Katie and James Manning of Glen Rock, NJ, son Thomas Jr and daughter Maggie of NYC, his grandchildren Kathryn, Aidan, and Brynn O'Donnell, Emma, Audrey, and Charlotte Manning, and his sisters Sheila Brown of Budd Lake, NJ and Elizabeth Pettinato of NYC, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
