Thomas Barmore Bruton

1930 - 2022

Winston-Salem, NC – Mag. Gen. Thomas Barmore Bruton died December 28, 2022 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. General Bruton ("Tom" to those who knew him) was born August 30, 1930 in Weslaco, Texas, the son of Lausanne and Helen Bruton.
Tom graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1947. He went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in business and a law degree from the University of Colorado in 1951 and 1954, respectively.
Tom was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1954. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Tom served in the Air Force for 31 years, eventually becoming The Judge Advocate General of the Air Force and attaining the rank of major general. While in the Air Force, Tom earned a master of science degree in business administration from George Washington University in 1966 and a master of political science from Auburn University in 1971. Tom retired from the Air Force in 1985. He was the consummate patriot and was immensely proud of his lifelong service to his country.
The only thing that matched Tom's love for his country was his unwavering love and adoration for his family. Tom was married to his life-long love, Peggy in 1965. Tom and Peggy had two sons, Andrew and Daniel.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Betty, and his son, Andrew. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Peggy, his adoring son Daniel, and his only grandchild, Davis Bruton.
Tom was a man, husband, and father of the utmost integrity and humility. He will be very truly missed and will be admired and loved forever.
