Thomas Robert Cardwell, passed away peacefully on Monday November 27th, 2023 at the age of 61 at his home in
Billings, MT. Even though life presented many challenges, Tom always had an optimistic and thankful outlook on life. "Today is a good day, I woke up" was one of many famous lines you would hear from him.
Tom was born in
Denver, CO on November 8th, 1962. He graduated from Billings West High School and went on to trade school to become an automotive mechanic. He was often proud of his work and told himself so by saying "Good job Tom". After graduating he worked at Kmart and firestone as a mechanic for many years. After a short stint as a shop manager at Montgomery wards, he became an operator at Conoco Refinery.
During that time Tom would marry Lori Driscoll and have three children, Sean Thomas, Austin Robert, and Tyler Martin. This is where his true passion would come to light. His love for his sons was unmatched and never went unnoticed. Just as his father did with him, Tom introduced his sons to motorcycles at a young age. Together they spent their summers travelling all over the country racing. He was constantly sacrificing his time and energy to make sure his boys had everything they needed to be successful. He spent countless nights working on motorcycles and ordering parts to the point that him and the UPS man were on first name basis.
Tom's outgoing personality was what touched so many people over the years. It did not matter if you knew him or not, get ready for a lengthy conversation that may have ended with Tom jokingly saying "Glad you got to see me today". As many know from the Motorcycle community, Tom's greatest joy was helping others. Anything mechanical, he was the person to call. It did not matter if you thought you needed help or not, Tom was there lending a hand. If you needed a part, chances were that he had two and never asked for anything in return. In the end, we can all strive to be a little like Tom.
Tom is survived by Lori Ann and his three sons Sean (Adrianne) and three Grandchildren, Austin (Aleisha) and one Grandson, and Tyler (Jadie) and one Granddaughter on the way, his uncles Jerry (Laurel) Cardwell and Mike (Judy) Cardwell of CO and Jack (Diane) Cardwell of TN, his brother, Mark (Mary) Cardwell, sister Sheri (Dick) Dede, nephews Matt (Leslie), Kyle, Taylor, Michael, Kevin (Bailey), Jeremy (Whitney), Ethan (Celina), Dylan, and Scott-Thomas, nieces Ada (Isaiah) and Heather and Sister-in-laws Dawn and Traci(Mark).
