Thomas Arthur "Tom" Carothers, 77, died Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in Tyler, Texas.
He was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to James and Rosalyn Carothers. He grew up in Clyde and graduated from Clyde High School in 1964. Tom graduated from The Ohio State University in 1968 and was commissioned through ROTC into U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as a Lieutenant, leading young men through war from January to December of 1970 as a platoon leader in the jungle.
Tom married Sandy Williams in Aug., 1968, and almost made it to 56 years of marriage. Sandy survives with a heavy heart and will miss her best friend forever. They raised four wonderful kids, Thomas Scot Carothers (Tadao Uchisawa), Krista Carothers (James Meddick), Katherine Carothers McBain (Jeremy), and James Carothers (Catherine). Tom was a proud grandfather to Jack Meddick and Malcolm and Colin McBain.
Tom earned his M.S. in Hydrology from Kent State University and worked for several consulting firms as a hydrologist on projects throughout the country. He served as an Elder at Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, and First Presbyterian Church in Clyde. Tom was an active member of Masonic Lodge #244 and past master in Clyde.
Tom never met a stranger and truly had a pure heart. He is survived by his wife; children; and sisters, Susan Carter and Connie Beeken.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Bruce Carothers; sister-in-law, Rae Ann Carothers; two brothers-in-law, Donald Beeken and Robert Carter; and parents.
Tom's memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Clyde. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided by the Women of the Church following burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to First Presbyterian Church of Clyde, 113 West Forest Street, P.O. Box 135, Clyde, Ohio.
