Thomas J. Carroll, Jr., age 88, passed away on December 3, 2025, at Hunterdon Medical Center. Born on November 6, 1937, in Trenton, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Carroll and the late Mary C. Carroll.
Raised in Trenton, Tom graduated from Trenton Catholic High School, Class of 1956. Shortly after, he proudly joined the United States Air Force, serving his country for four years. On April 28, 1962, Tom married the love of his life, Frances Burke Carroll. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children-Thomas, Anne, and Meghan. Before settling in Hunterdon County in 1978, the family resided in Hamilton, NJ.
Tom earned his Master's Degree from Rider University, where he also received his teaching certificate and went on to teach night classes. He enjoyed a long and successful career with AT&T, where he ultimately became an Engineering Project Manager. He retired in 2001.
A devout Catholic, Tom was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, NJ. He cherished the lifelong friendships he formed at Trenton Catholic High School and met monthly with his classmates for breakfast-a tradition that meant the world to him.
Tom had a deep love of nature and found joy in bird watching, running-proudly completing the New York City Marathon-and exploring history. Above all, he adored traveling the world with his beloved Frances and treasured every moment spent with his family. Known for his warm sense of humor and ability to befriend anyone he met, Tom left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Carroll III, and his wife Carol; his daughters, Anne Goodhue and her husband David, and Meghan Carroll; his brothers, George Carroll and his wife Regina, and Robert Carroll and his wife Lois; his sister, Kathy Dougherty, and her husband Tom; and his sister-in-law, Claire Lensis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances; his sister, Mollye Carroll; his sisters-in-law Mary Burke, Ann Burke, Regina Burke, and Patricia Szathmary; and his brothers-in-law Alex Szathmary and Richard Lensis.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ 08801. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Martin Funeral Home, Clinton, NJ. To send condolences, please visit
