Thomas P. "Tom" Charmont, age 89, of Asbury Park, NJ, formerly of Seagate (Brooklyn, NY), Fords, Colts Neck, Middletown, NJ, and Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at Jersey Shore Hospital of natural causes.
Born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, on July 10, 1936, Tom was the beloved son of Thomas and Gertrude "Jerry" Charmont and the cherished brother of Arden Adler. A proud graduate of the University of Miami, Class of 1958, Tom dedicated much of his life to the family automotive business, where he began working as a young boy and continued until his semi-retirement and sale of the business in 2002.
Tom grew up surrounded by a close-knit Italian & Jewish family whose lives were intertwined in every way-from living on the same block in Fords, NJ, to sharing faith, work, and countless memories together. His stories often returned to the family's lake house at Greenwood Lake, NJ, a place that held a special place in his heart.
To those who knew him, Tom was more than a devoted father, grandfather, and friend-he was the heart of every gathering. Known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, great cooking and joke/story telling, Tom had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel loved and valued. A true Renaissance man, he could fix a car in the morning, play a round of golf with his sons in the afternoon, and light up a social event that same evening with his humor and charm. He was famous for his one-liners, his ability to turn any situation into a laugh, and his knack for finding joy in the simple things. If Tom was in the room, there was laughter nearby.
In his later years, Tom remained active and engaged with his community as a proud member of the Italian American Association of Ocean Township. There, he could often be found playing bocce, volunteering at the annual festival, and dancing the night away with his longtime companion, AnnaMarie Castronuova. Even in his 80s, Tom continued to make lasting friendships and bring joy wherever he went.
Tom's proudest accomplishment was, without question, his family. He is survived by:
• His daughter Tammy O'Hare, son-in-law Kevin O'Hare, and grandsons Ryan and Sean O'Hare.
• His son Thomas Charles Charmont, daughter-in-law Sheila Peri, granddaughter Gabrielle Besovic, grandson Thomas Albert Charmont, great-grandsons Fuad and Idriz Besovic, and grandchildren Ritchie, Celia, and Jonathan Peri.
• His son Todd Charmont.
• His son Lance Charmont, daughter-in-law Helena Charmont, granddaughter Madeline Charmont, and grandson Jasper Charmont.
• His stepdaughter Nicole Conte, granddaughter Devon Allan, and grandson Parker Allan.
• His stepson Scott Baret, daughter-in-law Maryann Baret, and grandsons Alex and Maxwell Baret.
Tom's legacy lives on in the laughter, love, and unity of the family he built and cherished.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a
charity of your choice in Tom's memory-preferably one that reflects his lifelong joy, generosity, and love for family.
