With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the legacy of Thomas Clyde Colbert, affectionately known as Sonny and T.C., who entered this world on June 7, 1941, in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He was the beloved third of nine children born to Nettie Mae Horton Colbert and Thomas Colbert. On a journey marked by faith, love, and unwavering devotion to family, he peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on Thursday, January 30, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
A man of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom, Thomas was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 60 years, Alice Mae Crowder Colbert. Their union was a testament to love, partnership, and resilience-an example for generations to follow. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support, shaping the lives of their children: Shelynda Colbert-Capers and her husband, Cedric Capers; Gloria Jean Hardy and her husband, Barnabus Hardy; and Lawrence Bridgeforth Sr. and his wife, Deborah Bridgeforth.
Thomas's love extended beyond his immediate family, embracing his 10 grandchildren: six grandsons-Azail Bridgeforth and his wife, Trina Bridgeforth; James Bridgeforth and his wife, Valerie Bridgeforth; Khalil Capers; Idris Capers; Lawrence Bridgeforth Jr.; and Adrian Hardy and his wife, Antaezha Hardy-as well as four granddaughters-Tykeinya Yarborough and her husband, Keith Yarborough; Lakeysha Bridgeforth; RoShawnda Bridgeforth; and Ju'Varshia Ragsdale and her husband, Robert Ragsdale. He was also blessed with 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and all of whom he loved dearly. Thomas is also survived by his siblings Jerry Horton and his wife, Maxine Horton; William Boyd Colbert and his wife, Thelma; Bessie Glasgow; Lucille Cheek Alston and her husband, Carl; Ulice Hill Evans and her husband, Daniel; and his devoted friend, Charlie Royster.
Though he has reunited with his parents, beloved siblings Mary Lois Benson, Bettie Lee Evans, Paul Junior Colbert, and Homer Gene Colbert, and precious great-grandchildren Dayamiyi Ragsdale and Gabrielle Hayes Bridgeforth, his spirit remains deeply rooted in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Thomas Clyde Colbert was a man of quiet strength, integrity, and an enduring faith that carried him through life's challenges. He found joy in the simple moments-sharing stories, watching his family grow, and offering words of wisdom to those who sought his guidance. His laughter, his love, and his unwavering support will be profoundly missed but forever cherished.
As we lay him to rest, we find comfort in knowing that his love lives on in each of us. We honor his legacy by holding fast to the lessons he taught us: to love deeply, to stand strong, and to cherish family above all else.
Rest in peace, dear Thomas. Your love, your light, and your legacy will forever remain in our hearts.
