Milton Thomas 'Tom' Crane, age 84 of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Addison NY, died on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
Born on November 19, 1939, in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late Milton and Alice (Whitmore) Crane. Tom was a graduate of Addison High School and attended the University of Buffalo and Elmira College. He married Deborah Carr on November 14, 1969. She predeceased him on May 13, 2018. He worked as an accountant for Corning, Inc., retiring with over 40 years of service.
Tom will be remembered for his fun-loving humorous nature and kindness and generosity shown towards others. Through the years Tom donated to various humanitarian causes and assisted others in need. As a youth and younger man, Tom was an exceptional athlete and enjoyed competing with teammates in various basketball, baseball and softball leagues and tournaments. He was inducted to Cowanesque Valley Basketball league hall of fame in 1987. He enjoyed playing ball with his sons and spending time teaching them the fundamentals of the game. Later in life he was an avid runner and competed in numerous races. Tom competed in his first marathon in the inaugural Wine Glass Marathon in 1981 and won his age division finishing third overall. He was a loyal NY Mets fan and attended many baseball games with friends and family over the years. Tom was an avid reader of world history and enjoyed traveling with family to visit historical sites throughout the world. We are mourning the loss but feel fortunate that we were part of his life and have so many fond memories to lift our spirits.
Tom is survived by his sons; Mark (Penny), Tim (Dawn), and Tadd (Chloe) Crane, siblings; Mary Welsh, Richard Crane (Betsy), James Crane (Ligia), Karyl Hammond (David), Jeanne Smith (Pete), brothers-in-law; James Carr (Mary), David Carr (Candy), sisters-in-law; Barb Carr-Painter (Glenn), and Lorie Carr. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was predeceased by his son Todd Crane; his sister, Dr. Janet Crane, and his sister-in-law Elizabeth Soper.
It was Toms wish that there be no formal services. A graveside ceremony will take place at Addison Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall St., Addison, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Toms name may be sent to: American Lung Association.
