Thomas Alan (Tom) Davis, Sr. passed away July 28, 2025, after a seven-year battle with cancer. Tom was born June 1, 1947, to Charles and Edith (Morris) Davis in Des Moines, Iowa. Tom graduated from the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton, Iowa. Following high school, Tom received training from the Iowa Commission for the Blind and masseur training in St. Paul, MN. Tom worked as a masseur for ten years. In 1968, Tom married Joan Ahrens. This union produced two children: Tom Jr and Angel Michelle. Tom returned to Des Moines in 1978 and worked several years as a typist for the state of Iowa. In 1981, Tom married Linda Walter.
Tom enjoyed reading, watching the weather and composing songs on the piano. He even recorded an album. Tom loved life and the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. One of his greatest achievements was shooting a deer despite his blindness. In nice weather, Tom could often be seen grilling.
Tom was an avid sports fan. The Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs were his favorite teams.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Davis; siblings, Gary of Des Moines, Randy of Beloit, WI and Donna Tuttle of Des Moines; granddaughter Paige Grunig of Joplin, MO; and his leader dogs: Ryan, Shadow and Daisy. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Davis of Des Moines; sister, Rhonda (Bob) Porter of Altoona; sister-in-law Jerri Davis of Des Moines; children Tom (Rochelle) of Springfield, MO, and Angel Turner of Springfield, MO; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kiya Koda Animal Shelter in Indianola, Iowa or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Carlisle, Iowa. A visitation of remembrance is scheduled on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 10:00am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1100 Market St, Carlisle, IA 50047. Funeral service will start promptly at 11:00am also at the church. A traditional burial is scheduled at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa, 50321at 2:00pm.
