Thomas Patrick Doran, 86, of Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at the Samuel F. Vilas Home in Plattsburgh.
He was born in
Teaneck, NJ, March 25, 1939, the son of E. Donald and Helen (Steinhoff) Doran.
Tom attended the Township of Teaneck school system before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Hawaii. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to his hometown and joined the Teaneck Police Department, later transferring to the Bergen County Police Department, where he served for several years.
Following his law-enforcement career, Tom pursued a new path as an electrician. After completing his electrical apprenticeship and earning his license, he founded his own business, Tom Doran Electric.
After the passing of his wife, Lorraine, Tom relocated to Jay Peak, Vermont, where he established and grew his company. Tom proudly served on the Jay Peak Ski Patrol, dedicating himself to the safety and care of everyone on the mountain he loved.
A few years later, he moved to Plattsburgh, New York, and, together with Julie, founded Adirondack Pools.
Tom was the first President of the North Country Mission of Hope leadership team and an active participant, sponsor, and volunteer with the Mission of Hope for many years. His leadership and dedication were key to Mission growth and success as he navigated his call to service in the early years of the Mission.
He was on the board of and officer of the Albany Chapter of the National Spa & Pool Institute and of Region 1 NSPI board. Tom also served as officer on the board of the Samuel F. Vilas Home and Elks Club in Plattsburgh. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish the memory of Tom are; his companion of 53 years, Julie McAllister; her children, Grant (Laura), and Bradley (Sandy) McAllister; grandchildren, Rachel and Graham McAllister; his sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Doran Gangeri (Arthur); nieces and nephews, Elaine Gangeri, Michael Gangeri (Kathrine), James Doran (Jessica), and Catherine Doran Cicero (Randy); great-nieces, Avie and Cora Cicero; and several cousins.
Tom was predeceased by his mother, and father; his younger brother, CWO James D. Doran (Killed in Vietnam); his first wife, Lorraine; and his brother, William (Bill) Doran.
Honoring Tom's wishes, services will be held in New Jersey with burial in the George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery,
Paramus, NJ in the spring of 2026.
