Thomas Jay Duddles, known fondly as Tom, passed away on Friday, December 27th, 2024, at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. He was 72 years old. He was born on March 27th, 1952, in Springfield, Oregon, to parents Ralph Duddles and Virginia Williams. He spent his early years in Springfield and later lived in Hood River, Parkdale, and Mosier, Oregon, creating a life full of fond memories and strong connections with the community.
Tom's enduring love for his family began with his marriage to Carol Duddles on November 15th, 1970, in Lovelock, Nevada. Together, they shared over 50 years of love, laughter, and cherished moments. He was a proud father to Joshua Duddles and Jared Duddles, and an adoring grandfather to MaKinzee, Emma, Cole, and Zoella Duddles, as well as a great-grandfather to Ashlyn Duddles. Tom's family was the center of his world, and he made it his life's mission to ensure their happiness and well-being. He especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren, whether it was watching Zoe as she enjoyed the news and football, Emma roller skating in Parkdale, Cole playing baseball, or holding tea parties with MaKinzee. His heart was always filled with pride for their accomplishments and passions.
A lifelong Oregonian, Tom worked for many years at Handles Lumber Company, where he built lasting friendships. He was deeply involved in his community, especially through his role as a 4-H leader and his involvement with the FFA. Tom was also an enthusiastic coach of his children's baseball teams, always fostering a love for sports and teamwork.
Later in life, Tom grew into a committed and strong Baptist believer, finding comfort and purpose in his church community at Mountain View Baptist Church, where he was an active member. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he carried a powerful verse with him: Luke 10:19 - "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
Tom's unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and passion for helping others will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
