Thomas J. Duggar Jr.

Tom Duggar, 82, passed away on July 1, 2023, at Margaret Dozier Hospice House at Big Bend Hospice. Tommy had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure over ten years ago, but he maintained an active lifestyle until he was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville just three weeks ago.
His long survival with heart failure was due to excellent health care from Dr. Parag Patel, his cardiologist at Mayo Clinic, along with outstanding local physicians, including Dr. Frank Gredler and Dr. Hugh Vanlandingham, and Tommy's disciplined response to his chronic illness, which included attending cardiac rehab for the rest of his life. He logged 1,172 sessions.
Tommy was a person who made commitments and followed through on them. Tommy's professional career included 47 years with the Outside Plant Engineering Department of our local telephone company. Colleagues and friends marveled at his ability to recall roads, even actual utility poles, and new buildings all across the Big Bend region.
Tommy enjoyed a 47-year membership with Capital City Kiwanis Club, serving as President twice and Director for several terms. Kiwanis friends will serve as honorary Pall Bearers. Through Kiwanis, he was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years.
He was proud of being a Blood Bank donor, having donated 26 gallons over his lifetime.
Tommy's young life was in Wakulla County, where his great grandparents were pioneers. His family then moved to Tallahassee.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Margaret Lynn Duggar, to whom he was married for 56 years. He is also survived a brother, Charles Harrell; sisters, Sara Duggar Dyer and Jeannie Duggar Causseaux, (Pierce); 41 nieces and nephews and many treasured friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Harrell Langston and her husband, Reese; sister-in-law, Fay Harrell and brother-in-law, Maurice Dyer.
Services will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 9 at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32303. The family respectfully suggests that donations in Tommy's memory be made to Capital City Kiwanis Club, care of Joe Sanders, 2878 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308 or Meals on Wheels at Elder Care Services, 2518 West Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL, 32304, where Margaret Lynn served as the First Executive Director in 1973.
