Elder Thomas S. Durham

SAVANNAH- Elder Thomas S. Durham 78 entered eternal rest Saturday, October 12, 2024, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born January 17, 1946, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Wilbert Durham and Lucille Gibson. He received his early education in the public schools of Rocky Mount and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He engaged in athletic programs such as the swim team. Later, he moved to Jamica, New York where he met and married Clara Cauthen. To this union, Drusilla A. Durham was born. He is also the father of Dannille M. Durham and the late Keturah Durham. His children were his pride and joy.
Elder Thomas worked for the P.B. County School System for over 30 years and retired in 2014. He also worked with Sexton-Hall Funeral Home.
At an early age, he joined the United House of Prayer in Brooklyn #1. He was one of the original 500 number 1# Elders called by the Late Bishop (Daddy) W. McCollough in the late 1960's because of that he became youth pastor of Brooklyn #2, then pastor of St. Petersburg, FL. and pastoring Delray Beach, FL and Dania Beach, FL. He was the assistant pastor of Indian Town, FL now Riveria Beach, FL and Miami #2.
He later relocated to Savannah, GA and became a devoted member of Rossignol Hill Mission.
In addition to his parents, and his daughter, he is preceded in death by sisters, Marie Gibson, Linda Gibson Caudle, and Louise Gregg.
Elder Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Clara Cauthen Durham, daughters, Dannille M. Durham, Drusilla A. Durham; brother, Apostle C.R. Durham; sisters, Sabreda Moore, Sheila Murray, Jackie Montegut; Godson, Kenneth Rouse, Jr., Bonus mother, Cleo White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, church family and friends.
