Thomas Daniel Ebert (Jeep), 10/23/1930-01/19/2025. Predeceased by his parents John and Agnes (nee Somers) Ebert and sister Rita and her husband Irving Graham. Survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Agnes (nee Foley), his brother John and wife Nancy, and sister-in-law Marie Foley, his daughters Maureen and husband Timothy O'Halloran and Nancy and Michael Tuttle. His sons, Thomas and wife Therese (nee McGreevy), Michael and wife Barbara (nee Pearse), Martin and wife Kristy (nee Williams), Paul and wife Sharon (nee McGrath), Kurt and wife Ethel (nee Caracciolo) and Christopher and wife Cathy (nee DeRocker). Tom also leaves behind thirty adoring grandchildren, over twenty great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Tom attended Sacred Heart grade school and Synder High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and served his country in the Korean War with the rank of Sergeant. Always proud to be a Marine, he wore the emblem with pride throughout his life and loved spending time with his fellow Marines. After honorably discharging from the Marines, Tom came home to sweep the love of his life off her feet and he and Agnes Foley married in 1955. Together they shared a blessed life and proudly raised eight children.
Tom joined the Jersey City Police Dept. in 1958, and treasured being assigned to the Mounted Police Force, later moving on to the motorcycle squad. He was promoted to sergeant and served in the Emergency Squad until he retired in 1985. He always enjoyed reuniting with his fellow brothers and sisters in blue, at holiday parties and other gatherings. After retiring and moving to Brick in 1985, Tom started a new career as a school bus driver. In 2003, Tom and Ag moved to Holiday City Berkeley in Toms River until relocating in 2021 to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Nothing was more important to Tom than family and friends. His greatest joy was celebrating holidays and milestones surrounded by large groups of those he loved. Spending time traveling with his wife, siblings, in-laws and lifelong friends, Marge and Jim Mooney, was a great pleasure for Tom. He cherished his trips to Atlantic City with his brother John. Also, heading to the Poconos, and eventually the Catskills, for a week every summer with extended family was something he did not want to miss - even making his last visit to the Catskills this past year! He never wanted to miss a good time or his spot on the horseshoe/cornhole/bocce list.
Tom was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League, the American Legion, VFW, the Moose Lodge and Ocean County Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. He was an avid football Giants fan and followed the Knicks and Rangers religiously. Beloved by his family and cherished by his friends, Tom left a part of himself with everyone he came to know. The world lost a kind, generous, forever giving soul and protective hero with his passing but there is now a new guard at Heaven's gate.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday January 29, 2025, from 4-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday January 30, 2025, at St Dominic Church 250 Old Squan Road Brick, NJ 08724. Frank and I will always think of Mr. Ebert with love in our hearts. Frank would refer to him as the richest man he knew. His life was so blessed because he gave so much of himself to his family, his large loving family, and all those who were lucky enough to be part of his world. Frank and I were lucky enough to be welcomed into his life and will remember his kindness, humor and generosity.
As we think about Mr. Ebert, we celebrate the life that he had and the person that he was. With our love , Frank and Cindy Giordano
