Thomas England Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Unity Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC - Moss Point on Dec. 9, 2025.
Thomas Michael England, affectionately known as Michael Glaude or simply Candyman, was born the sixth of ten children into the Glaude (England) family. He carried his Catholic faith with pride, often introducing himself by his saint's name, Thomas Michael "Patrick" England, while also embracing Rastafarian influences, both shaped his worldview.

After graduating from Magnolia High School in 1969, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he traveled the world and gained a profound appreciation for life. Following his military service, Michael worked at the shipyard and continued his education in college. He married twice, and though both marriages came to an end, he found joy and peace in art, gardening, cooking, and tending to his many animals, from dogs to chickens, and even owls.

Michael was an entrepreneur at heart. He became well-known across local communities for the homemade candy he sold to beauty salons, barbershops, and small businesses. His popular creations were pecan candy, pralines, taffy, candy apples, and candied pecans.

He never met a stranger. Michael loved conversations and lifting spirits with a compliment or a good story. His charisma was undeniable - gentle and charming one moment, bold and fiery the next. Intelligent and complex, he carried wisdom collected from life's journeys and enjoyed sharing it freely. He devoted himself to helping others and held a deep love for his family, even while navigating the challenges of dementia and other issues.

One of the most meaningful chapters of his life was his journey to Jamaica. There, Michael connected with long-lost relatives on his father's side, embracing the beauty of his heritage and strengthening bonds that had been separated by time and distance. This experience remained close to his heart.

In 2019, as his dementia progressed, Michael moved to North Carolina, where he was welcomed with open arms by his daughter and her family. Surrounded by love, care, and reconnection, he found peace in the final chapter of his life. On December 1, 2025, Michael slipped away quietly and gracefully in the early morning hours at The Magnolia Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility in Clinton, North Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Elric England; his parents, Herman and Bernice Glaude, Sr.; his sisters, Dolores Glaude Ashford and Patricia Glaude; his brothers, Herman Glaude, Jr., Charles Glaude, Gerald Glaude, Sr., and Adrian Glaude; his nieces, Robin Glaude and Tracey Glaude; and his nephews, Millard Joseph Hayes and Mark Glaude.

He leaves to cherish his memory his four loving children: Ankhet Hesi-Ra Per-Hotep (aka Bonita England) of Roseville, MN; Dewayne Turk of Escatawpa, MS; Shona Campbell of Wilmington, NC; and Israel England of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by one brother, Eddie (Juanita) Glaude, Sr. of Moss Point, MS; two sisters, Cathy (Malcolm) Glaude Williams of Kenner, LA, and Carol Glaude Taite of Pascagoula, MS; 15 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to honor his legacy and his favorite phrase "BE LOVE".
