Thomas Vincent Faragoi, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Palos Heights on March 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was the proud father of four children: Thomas Jr. (Amy) Faragoi, Patrick (Karen) Faragoi, Jean Michael (George) Compton, and Paul (Joy) Faragoi. He was a deeply loved and endlessly entertaining "Captain," "Pa," and "Papa Tom" to his grandchildren Marty Faragoi; Emily and Abigail Faragoi; Anna and George Thomas Compton; and Luke and Mary Elizabeth Faragoi. His legendary dad jokes, well-timed pranks, and lifelong shenanigans will live on in each of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Evelyn (née Walsh) Faragoi, and his siblings Lee, Frank (late Jackie) and Jack (Nancy) Faragoi.

Tom grew up on the South Side of Chicago in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1961, where he discovered not just a career, but a calling. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1973 and upon returning to Chicago, rose through the ranks, eventually retiring as a Captain. He often spoke fondly of his 33 years with the Department and was known for his tenacity, particularly during his time as Commander of the 22nd District. Even at 87 years old, Tom had not missed a St. Jude Memorial March since 1961-a testament to both his loyalty and remarkable stamina.

In retirement, Tom split his time between his homes in Chicago and Fort Myers, frequently flying back and forth to attend nearly every event to which he was invited. From Captains' meetings, FBI reunions, and retirement parties to his grandchildren's Christmas pageants and sporting events, he showed up-often early, always ready, and usually with a joke. If you knew Tom, you knew he never sat still and maintained a calendar that rivaled people half his age.

He will be missed immensely and remembered for his humor, his dedication to family, his unwavering loyalty to friends and colleagues, and a life lived fully, loudly, and with great heart.
