Thomas "Tom" Alba Garito, 79, of Palm Coast, FL, entered the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior on September 13, 2024. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by love, with his wife of 52 years by his side. Tom was a man of unwavering character, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant of Christ. Although his absence leaves a deep void, we are comforted knowing he is now experiencing the unimaginable joy of being in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Born on April 27, 1945, to Thomas C. Garito and Lillian "Betty" Robinson Garito in Ilion, New York, Tom was the younger of two children. He shared a close bond with his older sister, Pat, and often spoke fondly of his childhood adventures in Herkimer, where he developed lifelong memories.
At the age of 17, Tom joined the Navy, where he had the opportunity to travel the world and gain a deep appreciation for its wonders. After his service, he pursued a career in social work, harnessing his innate desire to help others. Tom and his wife, Martha, traveled extensively before starting a family, adventuring through America's national parks on dirt bikes, canoes, and their infamous VW bus.
Tom shared a joyful and enduring marriage with his beloved wife, Martha. He was a proud and loving father to his children, always offering encouragement, wisdom, and support. He was also a playful and fun-loving grandfather to his grandsons, cherishing every moment spent with them.
Tom lived every day with a profound sense of purpose. His greatest joy and passion was his love for the Lord Jesus Christ and sharing the Gospel with the world. He devoted his later years to studying Scripture, writing tracts, and exchanging letters with prisoners. The work he was most excited about however, was writing and distributing his book "Is the Bible Really from God???" to offer solid answers to those with earnest questions and doubts about the truth of God's Word. (Visit freebibletracts.org for more information.)
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Arriaga Garito; his son, Timothy Garito (and Christianne Dreyer); his daughter, Karen McCain (and Carter McCain); his sister, Pat Joehl (and Tom Joehl); and his cherished grandsons, Samuel, Joel, and Aaron McCain. He is preceded in death by his parents and his unborn daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Garito, whom he joyfully anticipated meeting for the first time at his own homecoming.
Tom lived his life with the assurance that he would spend eternity with the Lord. His prayer was always that others would have the same confidence. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved."
