Thomas J. Griffin

1943 - 2022

Thomas J. Griffin, 79, of Chicago passed away unexpectedly in South Bend, Indiana. Beloved husband to his bride of 55 years, Kathleen. Loving father to his daughter Janessa M. Griffin. Dear brother to Kathleen Long. He is also survived by many close family and friends.

Chicago born and raised, Dad was a sports lover who played baseball, football and basketball in his youth with a number of close friends with whom he shared lifelong relationships. He served our country in the Marine Corps Reserve for 6 years in the 1960s. Dad was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, retiring in 2017 after over 50 years of dedicated service.

Of the many endearments Dad was known by (Uncle Tom, T-Bone, Uncle Guido), he most cherished his role as husband and father, and especially as a Notre Dame Dad.

A private Mass will be held at the Log Chapel followed by inurnment at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Thomas and Kathleen Griffin Scholarship at the University of Notre Dame which seeks to support middle income students in emergent situations.
