I am so grateful to have known Mr. Halaska. The positive spirit he carried while volunteering as a math and/or reading tutor for my students at St. John's was such a day brightener. Always willing to help out with whatever task I set before him, he was encouraging to all of the kids he worked with, and expected each of them to give their best effort. One day I saw him jogging from the far end of the parking lot to the church and I asked him if he was late and he said, no, he thought it was good for him to run when he got the chance. My students were not the only ones lucky enough to learn from Mr. Halaska. He was a generous man as well as a living example of the adage "Hard work builds excellent character". Thank you, Mr. Halaska. I will always remember you with fondness.
