Mary A. Hickey (nee Carey), born in County Mayo, Ireland, and Thomas C. Hickey, born in County Limerick, Ireland, both of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Wingdale, NY, passed peacefully surrounded by family within days of each other. Mary passed at home on August 21, 2025, and Thomas followed at Venice Hospice House on August 26, 2025. Tom and Mary shared a beautiful life together, building a legacy of love that touched everyone who knew them. Their devotion to each other and their family was evident to all, and their warm Irish welcome made their home a space where family often gathered throughout the years. They were the cherished parents of Lynn (Charlie) O'Donnell and grandparents to Kellyann, Allison, and Tara, who brought them endless pride and joy. Mary is predeceased by her parents James and Bridget Carey and her brothers Brian, Dominick, P.J., Martin, Michael, Peter, Thomas and Tony, and her nephew James. She was the beloved sister of Agnes, who will treasure the memories of their lifelong bond. Thomas is predeceased by his wife Mary A. Hickey and his parents John and Mary Hickey and his brothers John Joe, Michael, James, Edward, and sisters Sr Christina and Elizabeth. He was the beloved brother of Sr. Aloysia, Patrick, and Jerry, who held him dear in their hearts. Tom and Mary leave a legacy of unwavering faith and countless lives that they enriched through kindness and love. Their memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know them in the US and abroad. A joint funeral Mass celebrating their lives will be held on September 27th at 10 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, FL 34231. The service will be live streamed online at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4ErzYYVtrNjStvkoLVLaRg, followed by burial in Mary's Memorial Garden at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
