Thomas J. Higgins, 62, of Ridley Township, PA, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Sharon Higgins, with whom he shared 37 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in Darby, PA, Tom was the cherished son of Thomas and Mary Higgins. He graduated from Williamson College of the Trades, a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. Over the years, Tom built a remarkable career as an industrial mechanic and salesman at Ingersoll Rand, where he was proud to be recognized as the #1 salesman multiple times. His talent and expertise led him to Mardinly Enterprises, and eventually to the creation of his own family business, Higgins Mechanical. This venture allowed him to work side by side with his sons, instilling in them the values of hard work and integrity.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Tom was an avid supporter of Philadelphia’s professional teams, but his greatest joy came from cheering on his children and grandchildren. He could often be found on the sidelines, coaching various baseball and softball teams, where his enthusiasm and encouragement made a lasting impact on young athletes. His involvement at BlackRock Park in Swarthmorewood, PA, showcased his commitment to community, as he dedicated countless hours volunteering his time and energy.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, deep compassion, and steadfast integrity. He was a man who put others before himself, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness and humility left an indelible mark on the lives he touched, and his legacy will live on through the countless people who were fortunate to know him.
In addition to his beloved wife Sharon, Tom is survived by his mother, Mary Higgins, siblings Barbara Friel (Jim), Kathleen Munafo, Patrick Higgins, Christine Gavigan, and Sheila Higgins. He is also survived by his three children, his two sons, Thomas (Maureen), and Joseph (Tara), and his daughter Alissa (Jarred). He was a proud Pop-Pop to Declan, Rowan, and Shane, who brought immense joy and laughter to his life.
He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Higgins, and his two sisters, Maureen and Suzanne Higgins.
As we remember Tom, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to family and community. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, inspiring us all to live with the same kindness and generosity he so effortlessly embodied.
