Thomas Holton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tabor Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Brighton on Jan. 21, 2025.
Thomas Eugene (Tommy) Holton was born in Boulder, Colorado to Alice Rae Scohy and Dr. Thomas Mayo Holton on December 3, 1956. He was the oldest of four children. He married his love of 45 years, Geraldine (Gerri) Martinez on December 21, 1979.
Tommy lived in Fort Worth and Dallas in Texas, Broomfield, Colorado and settled in Fort Lupton with his family in 1968 where he worked on the family farm, rodeoed and attended Fort Lupton High School, graduating in 1975. He moved to Prescott, Arizona with his high school sweetheart and wife, Gerri in 1979. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science and an Associate in Aeronautical Studies. He loved flying airplanes and cherished his adventures in Alaska and the Yukon mining for gold.
Tommy loved his family fiercely. He moved back to Fort Lupton after graduation and the birth of his daughter Lauren Rae in 1982. Tommy and Gerri were again blessed with the births of their son, Thomas Henry in 1985 and daughter India Rose in 1988. His family was the great blessing in his life and he shared his sense of humor, his gift of ornery fun, and his work ethic with his children and nine grandchildren.
Tommy was an independent spirit, an entrepreneur starting several businesses, eventually returning to his roots, raising cattle on the family farm. Tommy found his passion in politics and had a long and distinguished career of service to his community. He was Mayor of Fort Lupton for eight years and served on the Weld County Fair Board for five years, Fort Lupton City Council, Weld County Planning Commission eight years, and as Commissioner on the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission for eight years. He supported Fort Lupton youth sports programs, Boys and Girls Club in Fort Lupton, and Knights of Columbus at St. Williams Church. He believed in one's ability to make a difference in their community. He was generous and a source of inspiration to many.
He loved and hosted frequent large gatherings of friends and family with food and fire. He believed in tradition and heritage and embraced his Italian, Danish and Irish heritage, traveling to Italy, joining the Sausage Fingers Club, and was known for his "sauce" and eggplant parm. His life revolved around the family, the farm, his cat, and his Friday afternoons with his friends.
Tommy is survived by his wife Gerri; daughter Lauren (Darius) Ardrey, son Thomas (Jessica) Holton, daughter India (Chad) Hargett; along with nine grandchildren, Dalanie, Paige, Wyatt and Trent Shaffer, Addison, Little Thomas and Reese Holton, and Lane and Ryan Hargett; his parents, Alice and Dr. Thomas Mayo Holton; sisters Deana (Cary)Marone, Brenda Holton, and brother Vincent Holton. He is preceded in death by grandparents Augustus Eugene and Alma Scohy and Thomas Elwood and Fona Holton, and by nephew Chris (Kirk) Juda.
