Christy-Smith Funeral Homes - Morningside ChapelThomas “Tom” D. Hutcheson, 68, died Monday, October 20, 2025, at his residence in Sioux City, IA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 313 S. John St., Sioux City, IA, 51103.
Thomas “Tom” Donald Hutcheson, the son of Donald and Opal (Dempsay) Hutcheson was born February 20, 1957, in Onawa, IA. He graduated from North High School in 1975. Tom then went to work with his father at Irving F. Jenson Construction.
On September 25, 1967, Tom married Sharon Nelson in Sioux City. He worked for various other construction companies throughout the years. Tom then was employed at Mid-Step Services for nine years. He retired in 2022.
Tom enjoyed playing in a dart league, golfing, playing chess, and hunting. He also liked the Iowa Hawkeyes, making cookies, and spending time with his buddy, Reggie. Tom was very vocal about his conservative political views.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Rebecca Hutcheson of Battle Creek, IA, Shelly (Steve) Cogdill of Sioux City, Bill Hutcheson of Sioux City, Terri Matney of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two siblings, Shirley Lowe and Darrell (Chris) Lowe; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Mike and Randy Hutcheson.
