To the family of Thomas Casey, Im so sorry for your loss. Tom and I went to Officer Candidate School together and MI Basic course after at Ft Huachuca. We lost touch after that and I didnt hear of his passing until years later by accident. I was in shock. Tom was such a stud. He was physically gifted, super smart and had a very strong personality. He didnt take any crap and led by example. I honor Tom today on this Memorial Day of 2020.

To Tom's Family:
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing only a few days ago. I served with Tom at DLI in 1997-1998 and had since lost touch with him (and the rest of the DLI bunch) over the years.
I managed to reconnect with another mutual DLI friend just this week who told me about Tom's passing in Jan 2008.
I just wanted to you to know that he was one of the best men I've ever known - one hell of a soldier and an even better human being.
I was proud to call Tom my friend and I was a better person for knowing him.
You have my deepest condolences and I will keep your family in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Capt Justin Smith, USAF

Dear Leslie, Joseph and Michael:
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Tom. He was an extraordinary man.
In 2000, I attended officer candidate school (OCS) with Tom at Ft. Benning, GA. I was a relatively new guy to the Army when I met Tom. I came to OCS fresh out of college and basic training, and to describe me as “anxious” would have been an understatement. During these times, Tom became not only my friend, but a great mentor. To ease the tension, Tom was always willing to share helpful advice. To help me improve on my Army Physical Test, I remember him telling me “when you feel yourself getting tired on the push-up test, begin to widen the distance between your hands and use more of your shoulders to knock a few more out.” Tom had an unbelievable sit-up pace. I’m certain he held the record for most sit-ups completed in a 2 minute period for our class. Of course he told me the secret of the sit-up secrets too…never ever rest. I felt particularly sorry for the guy that had to hold Tom’s feet down while he was conducting sit-ups because this was pretty much an impossible task.
One of the greatest things I learned at OCS was that leadership was more about setting the right example than just moving through the motions with minimal effort or care. Tom was a true leader and he lived this mantra day in and day out. Every day, Tom strove for excellence and he never took a job lightly. During OCS, we had to walk everywhere in formation. I’m pretty sure Tom never enjoyed drill and ceremony, but he constantly volunteered to take charge of the formation because he just knew it was the right thing to do.
There are a few people out there than can compare with Tom’s drive. His level of energy will put an investment banker who works 90 hours a week to shame. During our assault-a-bunker training, I remember quite vividly watching Tom take his team to flank the bunker. I’m Ranger qualified and during all my five years in the Army, I never saw anyone that could gain so much ground on a true three to five second rush and execute an assault more flawlessly than Tom. Some people stay above ground for a lot longer than 5 seconds, brace themselves gently before they hit the ground and then lie there sucking wind thinking about how uncomfortable they are. This was not Tom! Tom would hit the ground hard. He would roll left and roll right and do anything he can to confuse the enemy and mask his movement. He would signal his team and continue to push them forward. If anyone was going to take down the bunker it would be Tom and his team.
The greatest part of his intensity was that it was always about something much more than himself. He took his duty to safeguard America and his soldiers with utmost sincerity. He believed that rules that helped instill discipline to achieve that cause were essential. Tom was always questioning rules and orders to ensure they fit into a framework that instilled his honorable values. If he felt someone was misusing power, authority, intent or making a poor judgment calls, he would quickly communicate his thoughts on the matter. Tom was not one to sit back on the sidelines and watch someone take the team down the wrong road. Tom always had courage to express his views and take action.
I love Tom Casey and everything he stood for. He is a great American and I shall never forget him. A part of him will always be alive in all of those he touched.
God bless him and may we all someday join him in heaven,
Chris Ix

Maam,
My name is CAPT Casey Connors. I went to high school with your husband. I don't think any words from me can ease any of the pain, even a year later, but I wanted to tell you how much I thought of him. I didn't keep in touch after highschool. I didn't even know that he had joined the Army. I just returned from my third time in Iraq, where, in command, I lost one Soldier killed, and had 5 seriously wounded. Tom was a good kid in high school, he always treated me with respect, though we weren't really close friends, and I liked him. I found out Tom was killed through the Albuquerque Academy Alumni magazine which I received in my bunkerized room on FOB Rustimyah in Baghdad. My heart goes out to you. I wish that we could get Tom back. I wish we could get all of them back. He was a good man, he served honorably, and I hope you remember him that way. If you ever need anything, please email me - I'm on Army Knowledge Online. First Name. Last Name. Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Thomas, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Well, I knew Tom Casey back in his enlisted days in the 82nd. I just recieved word on his passing and wanted to send my condalances to his family. Casey was a good soldier and always had his sights set on the next level. He wanted to become an officer and I am glad that he made it as it seemed that he had the mentality to make a good one. Casey was never one to settle for something that he didn't think was right.
Time is the great healer of our wounds and I hope that with the passing of time the Casey family will be able to remember Tom for all the happy times that they shared together. Best wishes to the family, Tom is gone but is not forgetten by those who served with him.

I worked with CPT Casey when he was just a 2LT and 1LT at Fort Lewis WA. We kind of butted heads, but that was because he was such a dedicated soldier and truly believed in what he was doing when I always asked too many questions. I'm sorry to hear the news of his passing. He taught me a lot and was a terriffic officer and human being.

To the Casey family,
I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Thomas' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.
...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I just wanted to express my deepest sympathy to the family of Capt. Thomas Casey. I didn't know him but we are all saddened to hear of another soldiers' ultimate sacrifice. When I heard the news of his death on the local news, it broke my heart that another family is grief stricken and subjected to the pain of such a loss.
I was at the Santa Fe National cemetary visiting my son today. I hadn't been there in awhile and noticed today that he had a new "neighbor" buried next to him. I touched his headstone and said a prayer that he is resting peacefully.
I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words to ease your pain but I hope you know that you are in the hearts and thoughts of many.

I met Tom at FT Huacuhca in 2001. He was an agressive and smart officer and friend with a big heart. Who knew? that we would see each other again in San Antonio. I worked side by side with him for a few months and was able to become a close friend. Tom, honored me and my wife when he ask us if we could be the Godparents of Michael. Tom, I promise u that we will honor our commitment to Michael. Rest in Peace!

I grew up with Tom. I went to Annunciaton grade school with him in Albuquerque, NM. I was a cub scout in his den and served masses with him as an altar boy.
Tom was someone special.
He had it all... he was handsome, very sharp, witty, and funny. He was a natural born leader...something you could observe even when he was very young. Tom had all these talents and never failed to share them with the people around him. Tom was the guy that would jump into a fight and break it up. He was somebody that was everybodys friend...all the girls wanted him and all the guys wanted to be like him. Some people are given many gifts from God, but fail to share them with others. Tom wasn't one of those people, he gave everything he had and lived his life to the fullest. He died doing what he has done all his life, serving his brothers and sisters, serving his country. Heaven is a better place with Captain Casey there.

As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor

where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

My heart hurts at the loss of Tom. I had the privilege and honor to have work with Tom in the 470 Military Intelligence Brigade in Fort Sam Houston, TX up until he left to go to Iraq. Tom’s keen spirit, sense of humor, mentorship, and leadership set the example in our office. There are no words to express the gratitude that I have for the sacrifice of your son, husband, father and brother. I also lost a loved one in Iraq, Msg. Anthony Yost. I have read about the circumstances surrounding Capt. Casey's death, he definitely defines the meaning of a true "HERO". He risked his own life to keep us safe at home(not once but three times), and sacrificed his own life to rescue a fellow soldier. Capt. Casey is twice a "HERO". He paid the ultimate price for freedom... for that, my family and I will forever be grateful. The memory of Capt. Casey's heroism will be spoke about forever in my house and to all those that I know. Our family finds comfort in knowing, that we will see them again when we go home. May God wrap his arms around you and comfort you. All those that loved Thomas, will be in my prayers.

CPT Thomas J. Casey personified America at its best - deep seated honor and loyalty to God, country, family, friends, and co-workers.
