THOMAS KEMPER Obituary

KEMPER, Thomas Lebrun MD Of Lexington, MA, passed away peacefully, at 92 years old, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Jane (Crowley) Kemper; his brother, Richard Kemper; and his parents, Malcolm and Grace Kemper. He leaves behind his four children: Thomas and his wife, Christina, Elizabeth and her husband, Nick Galle, Katherine and her husband, James Mantineo and AnneMarie Kemper; six grandchildren: Nikolaus, Alexander, James, Margaret, Lauren and Jack; his sister, Catherine Peters; and two nieces, Renee and Erica. Tom earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and completed his residency at Rush-Presbyterian Hospital, followed by specialized training in neurology at Tufts University. He furthered his expertise in neuropathology and neuroanatomy at Boston City Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. As an Emeritus Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, Tom made significant contributions to the understanding of brain development, aging, and the neuropathology of infantile autism and Alzheimer's disease, authoring over 130 publications. Outside the laboratory, Tom was known for his extensive hobbies, including cooking, beer and wine making, gardening and birding. He enjoyed spending the summer at his vacation home in Maine with his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association. www.alz.org
