Thomas Kenealy Obituary

Thomas E. Kenealy, Sr., 94, of Rome, NY, passed away, peacefully at home, on March 21, 2025, after a life well lived.

Born on June 27, 1930, he was a son of the late Richard F. and Elizabeth (Brady) Kenealy. Following graduation from high school, Thomas obtained his Associate's Degree. He then enlisted in the Air Force where he became a Sergeant, Thomas proudly served his country from 1951-1955. Following his time in the Air Force, he was a sales rep for Gerber; his welcoming and charismatic personality led him to have a successful career and many cherished clients and co-workers.

On July 3, 1954, Thomas was united in marriage to Mary Ann Croniser, at St. Mary's Church, in Constableville, NY; together they shared five children whom they were both proud of. Thomas and Mary Ann shared a beautiful life and blessed marriage until her passing on June 12, 2012.

Thomas, always wanting to contribute to his community and country, kept himself busy by volunteering in various organizations. He was a member of the Stanwix Veterans Men's Club, the Memorial Day Association, Steczko Post, The Camden Continental Fife and Drum Corps, the Veterans Counsel of Rome, the Post Commander of the American Legion, a member of the Moose Club, the Toccolana Club and a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame and an active member of St. Peter's Church, Rome.

Thomas enjoyed time spent with friends and family. He was incredibly proud to be a grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the anchor of his family who were all blessed by his long life. Being an active member of the community and contributing anywhere that he could was extremely important to him; he had an amazing gift to bring people together and befriend anyone. Thomas leaves behind a lifetime of friends, acquaintances and family whose lives were all made brighter by knowing him.

Thomas leaves his children, Thomas "Ted" (Karen) Kenealy, Jr., of Camden, NY, Kathleen Farrar (fiancé, Brian Perry), of Rome, NY, Joseph Kenealy (fiancé, Patti Carr), of East Greenbush, NY and Rick (Pam) Kenealy, of Webster, NY; son-in-law, Larry Mason, of Delaware; seventeen grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Croniser; daughter, Patti Mason; and brother, John Kenealy.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, from St. Peter's Church, Rome. A Graveside Service, with Military Honors, will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Kenealy because I was best friends with his daughter, Patti. These are a few wonderful memories I have of him. I can remember Mr. Kenealy out watering a part of his backyard so that his children might have a backyard ice-rink. Patti and I had such fun skating back there, but it wouldn't have happened without her dad! I remember being very impressed with Mr. Kenealy-after all, he would receive a new car every year from his company-wow! And for a while there, I remember him having his CB radio and talking to all the truckers in his "special lingo" as we ventured on the thruway for one trip or another. When I was in high school, he was our "ride" to RCH every day, which I greatly appreciated. During Lent, he would first attend daily mass at St. Peter's, so Patti and I would attend mass with him before school-what a blessed time, and again wouldn't have happened without this holy example quietly lived out for us.  Later in life, I can remember coming into Rome to visit family, and always being greeted so warmly by Mr. Kenealy at church. He would make it a point to say hello after mass, and always made me feel so welcome.
I was blessed to be able to "attend" his funeral mass via Youtube, and was so happy to see Mary and Linda doing the readings, and Rick gave such a beautiful honoring of his dad. I'm sure it was so difficult for all of you, but it was such a wonderful way to honor your grandfather/father. Mr. Kenealy was truly a blessing, as was the rest of the Kenealy family which became my second home. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Love, Anita

Among many of Tom´s attributes he had the gift and heart of servant hood. I believe he was his happiest when serving others. It was a blessing to be considered his friend.
