Thomas James King, 77, of
Tiverton, RI, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, after courageously facing a three-year battle with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Born in
Providence, RI, Tom was the beloved son of the late John Frederick King and Helen F. (McCormick) King of North Providence.
A true pioneer in the technology field, Tom's professional journey reflected his innovative spirit and adaptability. He began his career at the Better Business Bureau in the late 1970s before moving to the forefront of the personal computer revolution as computer components manager for Tandy Corporation (Radio Shack). His entrepreneurial drive led him to establish his own computer networking technology business, which ultimately brought him to Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, where he served as information technology manager. After retiring from Care New England in 2010, Tom's expertise remained in demand, and he continued working as a security consultant for NetCenergy.
Tom was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who found his greatest joy in sharing his passions with others - especially his son Matt, and step-son Ross. He taught Matt everything about fishing and hunting, instilling in him a deep appreciation for the love of outdoorsmanship - and when he took Ross fishing as a child, imprinted lifelong favorite memories. Tom loved pheasant hunts with his loyal bird dogs, Emma and Murphy, and his hunting buddies. Incredibly sharp and witty, Tom's sense of humor was adored by all who knew him.
His love for the outdoors extended to surfing, tending his beehives, sailing, traveling to Hawaii, and long trail walks with his loyal companions. He loved training his dogs, found joy in music, and comfort in being with family. Tom was a natural leader and teacher, known for his kindness and generosity.
Tom will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 20 years, Jean (Amaral) King of Tiverton; his son Matthew T. King and wife Kari of Block Island; his sister Kathie King of North Providence and sister Karen (King) Bochichio and the late Michael Bochichio of North Providence; his nephew Michael Bochichio and niece Elizabeth Bochichio, both of North Providence; his step-children Ross Amaral and wife Rachel of
Norwich, CT, and Hope Amaral of Warwick; five cherished grandchildren; and Emma, his beloved cocker spaniel.
Tom's humor, intellect, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his professional contributions, but for the warmth, wisdom, and joy he shared with his family and friends throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, make a donation in Tom's name to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
