Thomas P. Lyons, retired Captain of the Quincy Fire Department, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on March 25, 2026. Tom was a devoted husband, proud firefighter, beloved uncle, loving brother, and loyal friend.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife of 38 years Patricia (Morrissey) Lyons, and his sisters Virginia M. Macaulay (David) of Nantucket and Mary Jane Murphy (the late Philip) of Hingham. He is also survived by adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis P. Lyons (Captain, QFD Ret.) and Anne (Lane) Lyons and sister, Anne F. McCabe (the late Myles).

Born and raised in Quincy, Tom made lifelong friendships with his buddies at the Rocky Nook family cottage. Tom graduated from Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1967 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University in 1973.

Tom’s life was punctuated by adventures in his early years. He traveled throughout Europe by bike, worked summers at Thompson’s Clam Bar, and resided at the ‘Harwich Hilton’. He enjoyed sailing, nature photography, kayaking, Cape Cod vacations, family trips, Bruins hockey, Patriots football, and celebrating life events with nieces, nephews, and being honorary grandfather to the neighborhood kids!

Following in his father’s footsteps, Tom served the Quincy Fire Department for 32 years. Tom continued his work as an advocate for public safety and fire prevention in the City of Quincy. Having witnessed first hand the impact of fire, he developed a lifelong passion for teaching fire education and prevention spending 17 years as Captain of Fire Prevention for the Quincy community.

After retiring from the Quincy Fire Department, he became the Fire Safety Administrator at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for 10 years.

He co-produced 40 shows on the Quincy Cable Access TV and 4 public services announcements. One receiving first place national recognition in the Alliance for Community Media’s Hometown Media Awards. His work in these mediums, TV and social media continue to reach a national audience to this day.

He was also an avid writer, authoring over 200 articles published in the Quincy Sun on Fire Safety and Prevention. He would later consolidated those articles in 2022, and published “Fighting Fire; A Proactive Approach”.

In addition to his writings, he was an award winning photographer with several of his pictures published in Cape Cod Life Magazine. He captured his love of the ocean through his camera lens. Several of Tom’s photos can be seen in shops across the Cape.

Tom lived a life of gratitude, thankful for his many blessings. He was often heard to say “Gratitude is not lost on Tommy Lyons”!

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 4-8pm at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA at 11am. Burial will take place at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tom to Croi Health, a hospice care provider who provided wonderful care to Tom and his loved ones.
