Thomas Maroni Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals-Central Chapel - North Adams on Mar. 1, 2025.
Thomas Maroni, 82 of Readsboro, Vermont passed away peacefully at his winter home in Naples, FL on February 21, 2025 following a lengthy illness.
Tom was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on April 18, 1942 to parents Giovanni (John) and Helen Stankewich Maroni.
Tom graduated from St. Joseph's High School in North Adams, MA in 1960, and graduated from Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT in 1963 with an associate degree in Civil Engineering.
Tom served in The U.S. Army from 1963-1965.
For most of his life, Tom was self-employed as a plumber running his own company, A. Maroni and Son Plumbing & Heating. Tom also freelanced as an Inspecting Civil Engineer on many sewer and water projects throughout Vermont and Massachusetts.
In his later years, Tom's favorite job was being a part of the security staff for the Boston Red Sox at their spring training facility in Fort Myers, Florida. During the summer months, Tom served as cemetery sexton for the town of Readsboro.
Community service was an important part of Tom's life. He was a Little League coach in the town of Readsboro for 22 years, an active member of the Readsboro Lions Club, Readsboro American Legion Post 29, and the Readsboro Fire Department. Tom enjoyed playing golf; he played in the men's league at Stamford Valley Golf Course in Vermont and The Sandbaggers league at Lakewood Golf Course in Naples, Florida.
Tom married Margaret Kustra in 1965 and they made their homes in Readsboro, Vermont and Naples, Florida.
Tom was well known for the chicken barbecues he cooked. He enjoyed the camaraderie in the chicken pits and shared his secrets with others so they could carry on his legacy.
Time at Pecos Bill; his hunting and fishing camp was dear to Tom, where he was an owner and held the title of "Camp Cookie". He will always be remembered for the delicious meals he prepared for the "Camp Crew" and all those who visited this special place.
Tom leaves his wife of 59 years Margaret, his three children Jill (Kevin) Flemming of Woburn, MA, Timothy (Donna Giambattista) Maroni of Grand Island, NY, and Michael (Cherie) Maroni of Purcellville, VA, his sister Karen (Jon Wagner) Maroni of Acton, MA.
Tom also leaves his seven grandchildren, Chris Flemming, Kate Flemming (William Wolfrum), Madeline Maroni, Aidan Maroni, Brady Maroni, Conner Maroni, and Emily Maroni, and one great grandson Wyatt Wolfrum.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Flynn-Dagnoli Funeral Home, CENTRAL CHAPEL 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA. A calling hour will be held that morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Internment of Tom's ashes will be held on Sunday May 25, 2025 at the Readsboro Village Cemetery, at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers the Maroni Family kindly requests donations be made to the Readsboro Lions Club or the Readsboro American Legion Post 29 in honor of Tom. Tommy was my mom's cousin, and I'll always remember him with a big smile on his face. The exhilarating jeep rides he gave to us kids will always be a highlight of my childhood memories---there was always room for one more kid in the jeep, and he'd take us careering through streams, up and down hills, and through the bush, with all of us screaming and laughing our heads off. I'll always picture Tommy at the firepit during Maroni family reunions, teaching all our kids the secrets of the perfect BBQ chicken and, of course, awarding the rubber chicken! Many fond memories---he will be missed.
