Thomas McConnon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lind Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 27, 2026.
Thomas J. McConnon, 92, of Lakewood, died Thursday March 26, 2026, in his home. He was surrounded by love and the warmth of his family, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Born May 26, 1933, in Winona, MN, he was the son of the late James and Cynthia Murdoch McConnon.

Following graduation from Dartmouth University in 1954, he served in the US Army from 1955-57.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as production manager for The Resource Center and earlier had worked at Falconer Glass and Ethan Allen.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ where he served on the board. He and his wife now attend Tree of Life Lutheran Church.

His other memberships include Jamestown Rotary Club, Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club, and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. In addition, he served on the board of The Resource Center. In his spare time Tom was an avid golfer.

Tom was a man of kindness, humor, and unwavering love. In his later years, he was fortunate enough to find love once again with his cherished wife, Dorie. Together, they created a bond that exemplified the beauty of second chances and the power of love. Their journey together was filled with laughter, companionship, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

Tom had a natural gift for storytelling, always able to bring a smile to those around him with his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. He was a loving father and husband who dedicated his life to making others feel cared for and supported. Whether it was fixing things around the house, lending a hand to a friend in need, or simply being there for his family, Tom's generosity knew no bounds.

A man of simple pleasures, Tom had a special fondness for his trusty flashlight, which he always seemed to have on hand, no matter the situation. He was the kind of person who saw beauty in the small, everyday moments and found joy in giving his best to whatever task was at hand.

Tom's legacy lives on in the hearts of his wife Dorie, his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a truly kind and considerate soul, and his memory will be cherished forever.

Surviving is his wife Dorie Swartz Deyo, whom he married September 13, 2013; three sons James (Colleen) McConnon of Westport, CT, John (Diane) McConnon of Houston, TX and Paul (Rosie) McConnon of Apopka, FL; six grandchildren Evan McConnon, Patrick McConnon, Steven (Jasmine) McConnon, Stephanie (Tathagata) McConnon, Bradley McConnon and Sarah McConnon; great grandchildren Dax and Vance McConnon and Feynman and Ella Lillian Sarkar; three stepchildren Elizabeth (Terry) Dahlin of Frewsburg, Stephen (Nancy) Deyo of Jamestown and Sara (Robert) Deyo-Kimmel of Webster, NY; nine step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Fix McConnon, whom he married in 1955 and who died in 2012; a grandson Angus McConnon and a sister Ann McConnon Chase.

The funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday April 1, 2026, in Tree of Life Lutheran Church where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Creche, Inc.
