Thomas McInnes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 8, 2026.
Celebration
Dr. Thomas A. McInnes
Orthodontist

Dr. Thomas Allen McInnes, devoted Husband, loving Father and Grandfather, died peacefully, with Family by his side, on March 3, 2026.

Born in Baltimore on December 21,1941 to Donald and Dorothy McInnes. Tom grew up in Homeland and graduated from The Visitation School, Loyola High School Blakefield, Loyola College in Baltimore, the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, and completed his Orthodontic training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Tom opened his orthodontic private practice on Charles Street in 1969 and later opened a second office in Hereford. He relocated his Charles Street office to Bellona Ave. and Charles St. He loved going to work everyday! He cared deeply about each and every one of his patients, adults and children (even when they lost their retainers!). Tom was a member, advocate and sometimes officer of many Local and National Organizations: American, Maryland State, Baltimore County and City Dental Associations, the American and Middle Atlantic Associations of Orthodontists, and a member/ Active President in 1991- 1992 of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists. Tom spent seven years in the Army Reserves and Captain Thomas A. McInnes was Honorably discharged in October 1973.

In 1999 Tom was issued a patent for the Bagel Slicing Appliance that he designed and built. He loved designing and studying floor plans also. Tom retired in 2018.

Dr. Tom, as he was lovingly known at Springwell Senior Living, is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Murphy McInnes. Tom was one of three boys, survived by older brother Donald McInnes Jr. His younger brother William McInnes is deceased. Tom is also survived by 5 children, Holly McInnes & George Constantine, Thomas Allen McInnes, Jr. & Nicha, Erin McInnes Shaughnessy & Scott, John Brady McInnes and Dr. Meghan McInnes Palmer & David. Meghan continues Tom's legacy today with the McInnes Palmer Orthodontic Practice. Tom will also be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren, Georgia, Tess, and Grace Constantine, Reily and Maxwell McInnes, Avery and Beckett Shaughnessy, Ella and Wesley Palmer.

At the end of his workday, Tom frequently attended the 5:30 p.m. Mass at The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Tom also spent much of his free time watching and photographing his children and Grandchildren playing baseball, basketball, lacrosse and gymnastics as well as school teams: football, field hockey, squash, tennis and lacrosse! When possible, he was always there for the events his children and grandchildren participated in. Tom took great pride in capturing special moments that his family would treasure for years to come. He also enjoyed traveling, skiing, playing tennis and golf with friends. Smiles and laughter came easily! He was often found on the floor, with the Grandchildren he loved, and a great big smile, enjoying playtime with them!

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage you to make donations, in Tom's name, to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Lewy Body Dementia Association
