Thomas Andrew Mellen, 90 years old of Gurnee, IL passed away Monday, May 9, 2022. He was born October 18, 1931 to the late Elwood and Barbara (Speilman) Mellen in Waukegan, IL. Tom was a member of the Masonic youth group De Molay, where he met his wife Clarissa. On July 16, 1953, Tom was united in marriage with Clarissa Carnahan and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2013. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. Tom was an avid gardener and was proud of his vegetable and flower gardens. He enjoyed nature, especially his walks on the beach. Tom loved to travel with his wife, Clarissa – they traveled to New Orleans every year and enjoyed cruises and visiting new destinations. You could find the two of them listening to live music at dinner for their weekly date nights. Tom was a skilled woodworker and was always working with his hands.
Survivors include, daughter, Diana (Jules) Meihofer; grandchildren, Katie (Julian) Mellen-Martinez, Liam (Danielle) Mellen, and Lauren Mellen; great-grandchildren, Maya, Eli, Emie, and Izzy; extended nieces and nephews, family members, and friends. Along with his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Mellen, and son, Dennis Mellen.
