Thomas Roy "Butch" Murtaugh

Thomas Roy "Butch" Murtaugh - age 79 of Richmond, MO passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Ray County Hospital and Healthcare in Richmond, Missouri. Tom was born on December 1, 1946, the son of Edward and Mae (Benscoter) Murtaugh in Omaha, NE. He grew up in Omaha and was a graduate of Omaha North High School where he excelled in wrestling. Tom went on to wrestle at Omaha University. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bostwick the love of his life in 1968. In addition to Omaha and Obert, NE. They raised their family in several states before moving to the Richmond area over 30 years ago. He was a devoted minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and always ready to share the good news. Tom started his working career as a bricklayer and later worked in printing and at Cargill. He was ornery, goofy, funny and a great storyteller. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and raising cattle. He loved all of his family and was a good grandpa and great-grandpa. Tom will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Murtaugh and siblings, Timothy Murtaugh and Margie Janovich. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; children, Randy Murtaugh of Elliott, IA and Michelle Thompson (Les) of Richmond, MO; grandchildren: Samara (Cha), Nicole, Stormy, Stephanie (Patrick), Krissy, Christopher (Taylor), Tony, Amanda (Josh), Jessie, Kobe (Olivia), Cheyenne, and Gracie; twelve great-grandchildren: Brenden, Elijah, Coty, Easton, Gauge, Roy, Olivia, Cami, Peyton, Claire, Saylor, Chloe and Perri; siblings: Nancy Karrick, Jerry Murtaugh, Terry Murtaugh, Mary Sneed, Teresa Paulson, Joe Murtaugh, and Judy Burley; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Marilyn Murtaugh in care of the funeral home. A service celebrating Tom's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Stith Funeral Home in Polo.
