Thomas Nemec Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, LLC - Beacon on Dec. 5, 2025.
Thomas Michael Nemec, age 77 of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, after a long illness. Tom was born on October 18, 1948, in Shelton, CT, to the late Michael Peter Nemec, and Matilda "Tillie" Nemec.

A proud Marine Corps veteran, Tom went on to work as an IBM software engineer for 44 years in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he met his wife, Frances (Tarquini) Nemec. Tom and Fran were married on March 21, 1981 and spent 44 loving years together.

Tom was known for his quiet strength and steady presence. His family was the center of his life. Weekends were filled with following his son and daughter to their many activities, always being their biggest fan. He coached his daughter in soccer, attended and cheered her on during horseback riding. He shared his love of skiing and dirt-bike riding with his son, Michael. Some of his happiest memories were winter ski trips and racing days spent at the local dirt tracks.

A skilled mechanic, when he wasn't attending family events, he could be found in the basement or garage, tinkering, fixing, or improving anything he could get his hands on. Relaxed times were spent completing challenging 3-D puzzles, usually in record time, while listening to the oldies radio station. Tom was a devoted dog lover. He was rarely seen without the family dog by his side on his daily neighborhood walks.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Fran; daughter Laura Hougentogler (Dan), son Michael Nemec, and siblings Carolyn Nemec, Allan Nemec, Anna Nemec, Janice Cathcart (Michael deceased), nieces Cara Miele (Zachary), Genevieve Nemec and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday, December 9 at 11 A.M. Entombment with military honors will take place at Fishkill Rural Cemetery on Friday, December 12 at 11 A.M.
