Dr. Thomas K. Norrie Thomas Kent Norrie died on July 26, 2010, at the age of 72. Tom fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s and died at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 2, 1938, in Rochester, Minnesota, to T. Kenneth Norrie and Dorothy Campbell Norrie. He lived in Rochester until he attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. Thomas married Katherine Orsten in 1963, and his first child, David, was born in 1964. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Medicine. His second child, Daniel, was also born in 1965. Thomas completed his internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco in 1966, and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1967, including a tour of duty in Vietnam on the hospital ship USS Sanctuary. After his service in the Navy, he completed a residency in general practice at Contra Costa County Hospital in Martinez, California, in 1970. His third child, Susan was born in 1969. Thomas moved to Quincy, California, in 1970 where he served as a general practice physician and enjoyed camping, fishing and snowmobiling with his growing family, including his fourth child, Joseph, who was born in 1974. He moved back to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1975 to pursue a residency in anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic. After completing this residency, he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1978, where he served as an anesthesiologist at Poudre Valley Hospital until he retired in 2000. While living in Fort Collins, he continued to enjoy camping, fishing and snowmobiling, and also boating, skiing and his beloved cabin at Glacier View Meadows. His fifth child, Joshua, was born in 1980, but died shortly after birth of a heart defect. After his retirement, he continued to volunteer with the Cub Scouts, Partners Mentoring Youth and Hospice. He is survived by his wife, Katherine, son and daughter-in-law, David T. Norrie and Mia Riker-Norrie, of Montclair, New Jersey, son, Daniel Norrie, of Centennial, daughter and son-in-law, Susan Norrie Michaud and Dennis Michaud, of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, son, Joseph Norrie, of Fort Collins, and eleven grandchildren: Thomas, Violetta and Samuel Norrie of Montclair, New Jersey; Ryan and Matthew Norrie of Centennial; and Sheri, Timothy, Mark, Scott, Stephen and Amanda Michaud of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. He is also survived by five siblings: sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and John Kremer, of Horseheads, New York, brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Deborah Norrie, of Rochester, Minnesota, brother, Michael Norrie, of Rochester, Minnesota, sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Norrie Wirtz and Daniel Wirtz, of Northfield, Minnesota, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Norrie, of Rochester, Minnesota, and sister-in-law, Donna Norrie, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and his brother, Robert Norrie, predecease him. He will be dearly missed by all. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held 4:00 pm Friday, July 30, at First United Methodist Church, Fort Collins. A reception will follow at the church. Contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Pathways Hospice or Disabled Veterans of America, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO, 80526.

My husband and I have been lifelong friends of Tom's sister, Catherine. I have many fond childhood memories of the wonderful Norrie family. Our prayers and sympathies to you all.
