Thomas O'Keefe Obituary

Thomas Hance O'Keefe, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at West Jefferson Hospital of Marrero, LA after suffering a heart attack. Mr. O'Keefe was a soldier in the United States Army, and served two tours in the Vietnam War, as well as other tours in Korea and Germany. When Thomas retired from the Army with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II, he pursued a career as a civilian auto mechanic for the U.S. Navy, which led his family to relocate to the Greater New Orleans area from Columbus, GA. He was a faithful member of his local Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars chapters. He also attended Christ Baptist Church of Harvey, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret O'Keefe of Glens Falls, NY, his sister, Carol Walker of Schenectady, NY, and his grandson, Nile Arrington of Harvey, LA. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cathy Haines O'Keefe, his daughter Teresa (Kyle) Arrington, his adopted sons, Michael (Britni) O'Keefe and Timothy (Kelly) O'Keefe, and two granddaughters, Evie and Luna Arrington. A celebration of life will be hosted at Christ Baptist Church at 3000 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, LA 70058 on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 12 pm, with lunch to follow. He will receive full military honors with a later, private burial at the Slidell Veterans Cemetery. Mothe Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time.
