THOMAS AUGUST PENKALSKI, age 89. U.S. Air Force Veteran. Married to the love of his life Noretta (nee Pinzone) (deceased) for 64 years; loving father of Thomas, Jr. (deceased), Debbie Coljohn (Kip), Terry Johnson (Steve), Laura Putnam (Craig), Jim (Missy), Karen Reighard (Bob), Rochelle Kucharski (Scott), and Russell (deceased); cherished grandfather of Kip "Dominic", Matthew, Carmen, Kara (Dan), Michael, Emily, Tara (Jason), Erin (Alex), Tommy, Amanda, Katelyn, Russell, Tessa, Victor, Addison, Jonathan, Megan, and Alex; beloved great-grandfather of Owen, Lena, and Rosie; devoted son of the late August and Helen; dearest son-in-law of the late Russell and Theresa Pinzone; dear brother of Grace Cohara (Don) (both deceased), George Penn (Theresa), Carol Hasman (Bob), and Sue Pagano.
Tom began his career as an electrical engineer. While working for major corporations, he made significant technological contributions to such notable inventions as the antilock braking system (co-inventor), cruise control, self-cleaning oven, as well as many more. Among his other distinguished accomplishments, Tom co-authored Protecting Engineering Ideas and Inventions, a highly regarded book written for engineers and inventors that translated complicated intellectual property laws into clear and understandable language. Tom will always be remembered for his penchant for creative problem solving; and his love of country music, traveling, and spending time with his family and lifelong friends.
Family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association. Friends may call at LATEK & RYBICKI, A GOLDEN RULE FUNERAL HOME, 7906 BROADVIEW RD. (corner of Broadview and Sprague Rds.), where VISITING HOURS will be held Friday, July 12, at 10:00 AM. This will be immediately followed by services at 12:30 PM, and then interment at Maple Shade Cemetery, Independence, Ohio.
